Sweet and Carbonated Vernacular

The Elephant and Butter was reared to call it soda, but vacationed in pop territory. Seems like everything can be precisely computed in map form these days. I guess this means we're pretty close to knowing everything.

I wonder what fell into the "other" category.

I wondered the exact same thing. I'm told some areas use the word 'fizz,' and 'tonic' was once a common Massachusetts term, though it has almost entirely disappeared. I say we invent our own term, and see if it spreads. Something like: 'I'll have a bottle of ice-cold Candice, please.'

this map is amazing! I wonder how the use of beverage terminology correlates to who will vote for john mccain. "coke" territory looks pretty scary.
